Born in El Monte, CA. Special makeup effects artist and creature designer who studied under Rick Baker and entered American film as an uncredited makeup effects artist on KING KONG (1976). Other notable makeup effects credits include PIRANHA (1978), THE FOG (1980), THE HOWLING (1981), THE THING (1982), THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK and ROBOCOP (both 1987), BUGSY (1991), SE7EN (1995), MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE (1996), FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS (1998), FIGHT CLUB (1999), CHARLIE'S ANGELS (2000) and MR. DEEDS (2002).
During the making of THE THING (1982), Bottin lived on the set in Los Angeles, working 7 days a week for over a year. He slept on set and in laboratories. When the project was completed, John Carpenter sent him to the hospital where he was diagnosed with extreme exhaustion. Bottin vowed never to work so hard again. Bottin designed creatures for ROCK 'N' ROLL HIGH SCHOOL (1976), THE FOG and HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP (1980), ROBOCOPs 1, 2 & 3 (1987-93 - Robocop designer), TOYS (1992), MIMIC (1997), DEEP RISING (1998) and SERVING SARA (2002). He created the character visual effects for TOTAL RECALL (1990) and was a visual effects consultant on THE DEVIL'S ADVOCATE (1997).
