Born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, NY; raised in Hicksville, NY. Feisty, intelligent leading lady of the 1980s who formerly worked as a Wilhelmina model and a DJ for Europe's Radio Luxembourg. Bracco made an isolated screen debut in the French production DUOS SUR CANAPÉ (1979), but her acting career did not take off until she returned to the US. She excels at playing tough, resilient working-class women, as in SOMEONE TO WATCH OVER ME (1987) -- in which she delivers an effective upper-cut to the jaw of philandering husband Tom Berenger -- and GOODFELLAS (1990), for which her portrayal of mob wife Karen Hill earned her a best supporting actress award from the Los Angeles film critics.

From 1999 to 2007, she played psychiatrist Dr. Jennifer Melfi on "The Sopranos." Married to actor Harvey Keitel from 1982 until 1993. In 1994, she married actor Edward James Olmos; they divorced in 2002. Her sister is actress Elizabeth Bracco (b. 1959).
