Thomas R. Burman

Special makeup effects artist who entered American film in the early 1970s. Other notable credits include THE BOY WHO CRIED WEREWOLF (1973), THE FOOD OF THE GODS (1976), THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU (1977), INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (1978), PROPHESY (1979), HEAVEN'S GATE (1980), CAT PEOPLE (1982), BODY DOUBLE (1984), TEEN WOLF (1985), THROW MOMMA FROM THE TRAIN (1987), DIE HARD 2, AVALON, THE BONFIRE OF THE VANITIES and THE GODFATHER, PART III (all 1990), DEAD AGAIN and GRAND CANYON (both 1991), WAYNE'S WORLD and THE BODYGUARD (both 1992), ROBIN HOOD: MEN IN TIGHTS, BODY SNATCHERS and "The X Files" (TV) (all 1993), POWDER (1995), CON AIR (1997), CITY OF ANGELS and THE MASK OF ZORRO (both 1998), MEN OF HONOR (2000), TOMCATS (2001), SUSPECT ZERO (2004), and HARSH TIMES (2005). Burman has worked as a special makeup effects artist on episodes of the TV series "The X-Files", "Strong Medicine", "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation", "Threshold", "Nip/Tuck" and "Grey's Anatomy". He wrote and directed MEET THE HOLLOWHEADS (1989).

His brother, Ellis Burman (1902-1974), was a special effects photographer and creator on such features as THE WOLF MAN (1941), THE GHOST OF FRANKENSTEIN (1942), UNKNOWN ISLAND (1948) and TEENAGE CAVE MAN (1958). His nephew, Ellis Burman Jr., is a makeup artist, and his grand-nephew is sound designer and re-recording mixer Ellis Burman. Tom Burman's wife is makeup artist Bari Drieband-Burman.
