Educated at Hampton University (Virginia). Costume designer who began in American television as an associate producer of "The Family Man" in 1979. Other notable (non-nominated) costume design credits (eleven of which are Spike Lee films) include SCHOOL DAZE and I'M GONNA GIT YOU SUCKA (both 1988), DO THE RIGHT THING (1989), MO' BETTER BLUES (1990), THE FIVE HEARTBEATS, JUNGLE FEVER and HOUSE PARTY 2 (all 1991), WHAT'S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT and THE METEOR MAN (both 1993), SURVIVING THE GAME, CROOKLYN and COBB (all 1994), CLOCKERS and MONEY TRAIN (both 1995), THE GREAT WHITE HYPE (1996), ROSEWOOD (1997), SUMMER OF SAM (1999), LOVE AND BASKETBALL, PRICE OF GLORY, SHAFT and BAMBOOZLED (all 2000), DR. DOLITTLE 2 and BABY BOY (both 2001), I SPY (2002), DADDY DAY CARE (2003), AGAINST THE ROPES (2004), FOUR BROTHERS and SERENITY (both 2005), and STARSHIP DAVE and NOWHERELAND (both scheduled for 2008). Carter designed costumes for episodes of the TV series "Thief" and "Shark" (2006-07).
