The Cartoni story began in the late 30's with Renato Cartoni who served for years as technical director in Cinecittà in Rome. Completely dissatisfied with the kind of equipment avalaible in those days, he designed the first gyroscopic camera head which was immediatly adopted as standard support by the most reputed film directors of that time.
Renato's son, Guido, who shared with his father the passion for design and engineering, gave a substantial contribution to turn a small family business into a major company manufacturing a full range of camera support equipment for both film and video applications. The gyro head of the 1930's has been progressively improved over the years until it was finally replaced on the mid 70s by the first CARTONI fluid damping camera support head.
