Born in Atlanta, GA. American novelist and screenwriter, whose credits include CONRACK (1974, novel The Water Is Wide), THE GREAT SANTINI (1979, novel), THE LORDS OF DISCIPLINE (1983, novel), UNCONQUERED (1998, TV - teleplay) and THE PRINCE OF TIDES (1991, novel & screenplay). His latest book (2002) is My Losing Season, a memoir of his athletic experiences, particularly in his last season on the Citadel's basketball team in the 1960s.
