Eyes on the Prize (1987) Born in Chicago, IL. James A. DeVinney has a very successful record developing programs and scripts for broadcasting and cable networks. He has earned four Emmys® (three for documentary writing and one for children's programming), an Academy Award® nomination, four Peabodys and numerous journalism awards. He was writer, director, and producer for four of the programs in the highly acclaimed civil rights series "Eyes on the Prize." He has also written and produced programs for the PBS history series "American Experience" ("The Kennedys," "The Wizard of Photography"), The History Channel, and Discovery Channel. He taught Writing for Television at Boston University for ten years and now teaches screenwriting at Indiana University-Purdue University at Fort Wayne (IPFW).

Other television credits include "Previn and the Pittsburgh" (1977), an episode of "Once Upon a Classic" (1980), and "The Boy Who Loved Trolls" (1984).
