Born in South Africa; educated at the Royal College of Art Film School, London (cinematography), Goldblatt has shown a talent for sumptuous visuals in films such as Peter Hyams's OUTLAND (1981) and Tony Scott's THE HUNGER (1983).
Other notable credits include THE COTTON CLUB (1984), YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES (1985), LETHAL WEAPON (1987), EVERYBODY'S ALL-AMERICAN (1988), LETHAL WEAPON 2 (1989), JOE VERSUS THE VOLCANO (1990), FOR THE BOYS and PRINCE OF TIDES (both 1991), CONSENTING ADULTS (1992), THE PELICAN BRIEF (1993), BATMAN FOREVER (1995), STRIPTEASE (1996), BATMAN & ROBIN (1997), DEEP END OF THE OCEAN (1999), "Conspiracy" (2001, TV), "Path to War" (2002, TV), the 2003 TV mini-series "Angels in America," CLOSER (2004), RENT (2005) and CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR (2007). Goldblatt has been nominated for 3 Emmy® Awards, and has received 3 nominations for his cinematography in films and television from the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC). He was named Cinematographer of the Year by the Hollywood Film Festival in 2007. The same year, he also received the Lifetime Achievement Award from Camerimage (Poland).
