Herbie Hancock
(1940 -     )
Biography from Baseline's Encyclopedia of Film

Born in Chicago, IL. Hancock was a pioneer in the fusion of jazz techniques with electronic instrumentation -- a combination which fuelled several best-selling records as well as opening up a new film scoring idiom. He has provided the music for films including BLOWUP (1966), A SOLDIER'S STORY (1984) and COLORS (1988), as well as for TV's "Fat Albert." Appropriately, Hancock scored Bertrand Tavernier's 'ROUND MIDNIGHT (1986), a tribute to 1950s jazz greats Bud Powell and Lester Young, as well as playing a small part in the film.

Other composing credits for the screen include HERBIE (1966), THE SPOOK WHO SAT BY THE DOOR (1973), DEATH WISH (1974), JO JO DANCER, YOUR LIFE IS CALLING (1986), ACTION JACKSON (1988), HARLEM NIGHTS (1989), LIVIN' LARGE! (1991), HITTERS (2002, music supervisor), HERBIE HANCOCK: POSSIBILITIES (2006), and PIONEERS FOR PEACE: AMERICAN DOSEN RUFU (2007).
