Michael Herr

Writer and associate producer of FULL METAL JACKET (1987). He also wrote the narration segments of APOCALYPSE NOW (1979) and THE RAINMAKER (1997). A former writer for Esquire magazine, he was a close associate of Stanley Kubrick in England and helped Kubrick polish Frederic Raphael's screenplay of EYES WIDE SHUT (1999), Kubrick's last film. Herr is the author of Dispatches (1984), The Big Room (1987), Walter Winchell: A Novel (1990) and a 12,000-word essay for Vanity Fair that was published separately as Kubrick (1999).
