Entering American television in the late 1970s with "So Long Lady" (1978, writer & director), Nixon became an outspoken proponent of animal rights. He wrote and directed "Fossey's War" (1980, TV), "Sea Turtles: Ancient Nomads" (1988, TV), and "America the Beautiful" (1990, TV: also producer). In 1988, Nixon was a co-producer of GORILLAS IN THE MIST. His other producing/directing credits include "If I Can Do This... I Can Do Anything" (1987, TV), AMAZON DIARY (1989), "The Last Rivermen" (1992, TV), ENDANGERED SPECIES (2004), and THE LORD GOD BIRD (scheduled for 2008).
