Born in Stockholm, Sweden. Olin enjoyed a long-standing association, primarily as a stage actress, with Ingmar Bergman, of whose Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm she was a long-time a member. (Bergman wrote the part of Anna in 1984's AFTER THE REHEARSAL expressly for her.) She became an international screen star with two compelling, sexually charged roles, in THE UNBEARABLE LIGHTNESS OF BEING (1988) and ENEMIES, A LOVE STORY (1989).
Other notable credits include HAVANA (1990), ROMEO IS BLEEDING (1993), NIGHT FALLS ON MANHATTAN (1997), POLISH WEDDING and HAMILTON (both 1998), MYSTERY MEN and THE NINTH GATE (both 1999), CHOCOLAT (2000), IGNITION (2001), QUEEN OF THE DAMNED and DARKNESS (both 2002), THE UNITED STATES OF LELAND and HOLLYWOOD HOMICIDE (both 2003), CASANOVA and BANG BANG OURANGUTANG (both 2005), AWAKE (2007), and DEVIL YOU KNOW (2008). Olin played Irina Derevko on the TV series "Alias" (2002-06). She is married to director Lasse Hallström. Her father, actor-director Stig Olin, and her mother, actress Britta Holmberg, also worked with Bergman.
