David Petersen's films about self-sustaining communities have been exhibited or are in the collections of numerous museums including: Centre Georges Pompidou, Museum of Modern Art, Hirshhorn Museum, National Gallery of Art, and Library of Congress. His credits include FINE FOOD, FINE PASTRIES, OPEN 6 TO 9 (1989, producer), "Private Dicks: Men Exposed" (1999, TV: editor), "Out of Danger" (2000, Video: editor), and LET THE CHURCH SAY, AMEN (2004, producer, director & editor), as well as "If You Lived Here You Would Be Home Now" , "Rain: Scenes", and "Awakening". Petersen received fellowships from The MacDowell Colony, Yaddo, VCCA, and the Ragdale Foundation.
