Michelle Pfeiffer
(1958 -     )
Biography from Baseline's Encyclopedia of Film

Born in Santa Ana, CA; educated at Golden West College, CA and Whitley College, CA (court reporting). Classically beautiful blonde whose striking good looks, poise and talent have made her one of Hollywood's most valuable -- and likeable -- assets. Pfeiffer started acting in television in the late 1970s. She entered films in 1980 and first gained attention with a leading role in the high-profile but lackluster sequel GREASE 2 (1982). She joined the front rank of American screen actresses with fine performances in THE WITCHES OF EASTWICK (1987), opposite Cher and Susan Sarandon, and DANGEROUS LIAISONS (1988), as prim-wife-turned-passionate-lover Madame de Tourvel.

Pfeiffer consolidated her standing with critics and public with her roles as the slinky nightclub chanteuse who comes between Beau and Jeff Bridges in THE FABULOUS BAKER BOYS (1989) and as the Moscow publisher who gets involved with espionage and Sean Connery in THE RUSSIA HOUSE (1990). Her performance as the whip-cracking, kick-boxing Catwoman brought a much-needed spark to BATMAN RETURNS, the blockbuster hit of summer 1992. She also received critical acclaim that same year with her portrait of a woman obsessed with First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in LOVE FIELD.

Perhaps one of Pfeiffer's most demanding roles was that of Countess Olenska in Martin Scorsese's period drama, THE AGE OF INNOCENCE (1993), playing the seductively bruised, married woman who is scorned by New York's upper class, yet adored by Daniel Day-Lewis. She was far less challenged as the love interest of the supernaturally afflicted Jack Nicholson in the wildly uneven thriller WOLF (1994). More recently, she was impressive as Harrison Ford's beleaguered wife in WHAT LIES BENEATH (2000).

Other notable (non-nominated) credits include LADYHAWKE (1985), MARRIED TO THE MOB and TEQUILA SUNRISE (both 1988), FRANKIE AND JOHNNY (1991), DANGEROUS MINDS (1995), UP CLOSE & PERSONAL, TO GILLIAN ON HER 37TH BIRTHDAY and ONE FINE DAY (all 1996), A THOUSAND ACRES (1997), THE PRINCE OF EGYPT (1998, voice - Tzipporah), THE DEEP END OF THE OCEAN, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM and THE STORY OF US (all 1999), I AM SAM (2001), WHITE OLEANDER (2002), SINBAD: LEGEND OF THE SEVEN SEAS (2003, voice), I COULD NEVER BE YOUR WOMAN, HAIRSPRAY and STARDUST (all 2007), CHASING MONTANA (planned for 2008), and PERSONAL EFFECTS (scheduled for 2009).
