Born in Hyannis, Massachusetts; M.F.A. from the American Film Institute. Leading American cinematographer who has enjoyed a fruitful collaboration with writer-director Oliver Stone. Since his feature debut on SALVADOR (1986), Richardson has worked on Stone's PLATOON (1986), WALL STREET (1987), TALK RADIO (1988), BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY (1989) JFK and THE DOORS (both 1991), HEAVEN & EARTH (1993), NATURAL BORN KILLERS (1994), NIXON (1995) and U TURN (1997). He earned an Oscar for his work on JFK, which intercut grainy, documentary-style black-and-white footage with his usual crisp colors. Richardson's early credits include the controversial PBS documentary series "Frontline" and second unit photography on two cult films, Wes Craven's A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET and Alex Cox's REPO MAN (both 1984). He also shot John Sayles' EIGHT MEN OUT (1988) and CITY OF HOPE (1991) and Rob Reiner's A FEW GOOD MEN (1992).

Other notable credits include CASINO (1995), FAST, CHEAP & OUT OF CONTROL and WAG THE DOG (both 1997), THE HORSE WHISPERER (1998), BRINGING OUT THE DEAD and SNOW FALLING ON CEDARS (both 1999), THE HIRE: POWDER KEG (2001), THE FOUR FEATHERS (2002), KILL BILL: VOL. 1 (2003), KILL BILL: VOL. 2 and THE AVIATOR (both 2004), THE GOOD SHEPHERD (2006), SHINE A LIGHT, STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE and PINKVILLE (all scheduled for 2008), and SHUTTER ISLAND (planned for 2009).
