Born in South Weymouth, MA. Began his association with Merchant-Ivory films beginning with Ismail Merchant in 1976 before the team existed (SWEET SOUNDS). Since then, he has scored 25 of their films including THE BOSTONIANS (1984), LE DIVORCE (2003), THE EUROPEANS (1979), THE GOLDEN BOWL (2000), HOWARDS END (1992), JEFFERSON IN PARIS (1995), MR. & MRS. BRIDGE (1986), THE REMAINS OF THE DAY (1993), A ROOM WITH A VIEW (1986), SURVIVING PICASSO (1996), and THE WHITE COUNTESS (2005).

Other notable composing credits include SWEET LORRAINE (1987), BAIL JUMPER (1990), THE HIDDEN DIMENSION (1997), PLACE VENDÔME (1998), THE GIRL (2000), and CITY OF YOUR FINAL DESTINATION (scheduled for 2008).
