Born in Philadelphia, PA. Director, producer, editor and writer who began as an editor in Argentine film in the late 1960s. His producing-directing credits include THE MONEY (1975), CUBA CROSSING (1980), STOOGEMANIA (1985), 50 YEARS OF BUGS BUNNY IN 3 1/2 MINUTES (1989), SUPERSTAR: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF ANDY WARHOL (1990), 100 YEARS AT THE MOVIES (1994), "The First 100 Years: A Celebration of American Movies" (1995, TV), THAT GOOD NIGHT (also 1995), "The Source" (TV) and A HOUSE ON A HILL (both 1999), THE SPIRIT OF AMERICA (2001), A HOUSE ON A HILL (2003, also writer), and "Martin Luther King, Jr. Day: The Making of a Dream" (TV) and VISIONS OF CODY (also writer) (both 2004).
He also created film trailers and promos for such films as STAR WARS, CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND and AMERICAN GRAFFITI. Workman's annual montages are often the highlight of each year's Academy Awards telecast. Workman received his own Oscar® statuette in 1987 for a live action short called PRECIOUS IMAGES, made for the Directors Guild of America. The film went on to become the most widely shown short in film history -- appearing in schools, museums, film festivals and over 1000 movie theaters worldwide. PRECIOUS IMAGES is one of five Workman films in the collection of The Museum of Modern Art in New York.
