Born in New Zealand. Writer and producer who began in British television in the late 1970s ("Not the Nine O'Clock News"). Other successful British TV series were the "Black Adder" saga, "Mr. Bean" and "The Vicar of Dibley." His first film was DEAD ON TIME (1982). Other notable writing credits include FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL (1994, also co-exec. producer), BEAN (1997, also exec. producer), NOTTING HILL (1999, also exec. producer), BRIDGET JONES'S DIARY (2001), LOVE ACTUALLY (2003, also director), BRIDGET JONES: THE EDGE OF REASON (2004), MR. BEAN'S HOLIDAY (2007, also producer), THE NO. 1 LADIES DETECTIVE AGENCY (2008), and THE BOAT THAT ROCKED (announced for 2009, also director).

Curtis received the C.B.E. (Commander of the British Empire) in 2000.
