Born in California, Finerman earned a B.S. degree in Economics and Entrepreneurial Management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennyslvania. Upon graduating she began her career as a financial analyst in film acquisitions for The Movie Channel.
Moving to California two years later, she was hired by Universal Television as the company's first female business affairs executive. She went on to serve as Vice President of Development and Production for Tisch / Avnet Productions and later in the same capacity for Steve Tisch. In 1988, she established Wendy Finerman Productions. Her credits there include FAIRYTALE: A TRUE STORY (1997) and DRUMLINE (2002). Other notable producing credits include HOT TO TROT (1988), FORREST GUMP and I LIKE IT LIKE THAT (1994, exec. prod.), THE FAN (1996), STEPMOM (1998), "In a Class of His Own" (1999, TV, exec. prod.), SUGAR & SPICE (2001), "One for the Money" (2002, TV), "Surrender Dorothy" (TV, exec. prod.), BOY TO THE WORLD and THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA (all 2006), and P.S. I LOVE YOU (2007). She was married to producer Mark Canton from 1985 until 1999. She is the mother of three children.
