Richard Loncraine, who directed several of the films for which Harwood designed the costumes (THE MISSIONARY, BRIMSTONE & TREACLE, RICHARD III and FIREWALL), recalled this story in 2007 in The London Daily Mail about filming THE MISSIONARY: "While we were filming in Africa, I wanted to accurately represent the era by having the local women appear bare-breasted, but they were having none of it. So our costume designer, Shuna Harwood, decided that the only way was to set an example by taking her top off as well. It worked. So there she was, this lovely and pale topless woman alongside all these beautiful dark ones."
