Born in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia. David Hirschfelder is a musician who has enjoyed success as a solo recording artist, member of several performing organizations, and composer of film and other scores. He is a member of the 1980s cutting-edge jazz ensemble, Pyramid, which achieved top billing at the Montrieux Jazz Festival. He has written many scores for movies and television, including STRICTLY BALLROOM (1992), the reorchestration of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, SHINE (1996) and the grand epic, ELIZABETH (1998).
Hirschfelder's other notable film composing credits include DALLAS DOLL (1994), BATHING BOXES, THE LIFE OF HARRY DANE and TUNNEL VISION (all 1995), WHAT BECOMES OF THE BROKEN HEARTED? (1999), HANGING UP, THE WEIGHT OF WATER and BETTER THAN SEX (all 2000), THE WANNABES (2003), STANDING ROOM ONLY and PEACHES (both 2004), AQUAMARINE, IRRESISTIBLE and PANCHO AND LEFTY (all 2006), SHAKE HANDS WITH THE DEVIL (2007), and THE CHILDREN OF HUANG SHI and SALUTE (both 2008). Hirschfelder has also acted as a producer, composer, and performer on albums by Little River Band, Southern Sons, Skyhooks, and Dragon.
