Deborah Hoffmann
Biography and photo (2000) from Iris Films

For the past 20 years, Hoffmann has worked in the San Francisco Bay Area as a film and video editor, editing numerous internationally acclaimed documentaries on a wide range of sensitive and challenging topics.

For editing THE TIMES OF HARVEY MILK (1984), she received a National Emmy® and the film received an Academy Award®. Marlon Riggs' COLOR ADJUSTMENT (1991), which she edited, received a Peabody and an International Documentary Association Award. She also edited Riggs' ETHNIC NOTIONS (1986) and the Frontline program "Men Who Molest," which both received National Emmys, STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART (1994), an Academy Award nominee, and "Mulholland's Dream," the opening of the PBS series "Cadillac Desert" (1997).

She was an editor of COMMON THREADS: STORIES FROM THE QUILT (1989), another Academy Award winner. Most recently, Hoffmann edited SING FASTER: THE STAGEHANDS' RING CYCLE (1999), the winner of the Sundance Filmmakers' Trophy. She has received two Emmy Awards, a Peabody, a Columbia DuPont, a DGA nomination, and many other awards for her work
