Alec Lorimore is one of the most experienced and highly regarded executives, producers, and writers in the giant screen (i.e. "IMAX®") film industry, and has over 20 years experience in giant screen, 70mm films. During that time he's produced many of the most successful and critically acclaimed large-format films of all time, including the 1998 IMAX theatre mega-hit EVEREST, which has generated over $115 million in worldwide box office, making it the highest grossing documentary film of all time.
He was first nominated for an Academy Award® in 1995 for THE LIVING SEA (Best Documentary Short Subject), and was nominated again in the same category in 2000 for DOLPHINS. Other notable titles include THE MAGIC OF FLIGHT (Producer), and AT SEA (Writer, Producer), for which he was honored with the prestigious Alfred Thayer Mahan Award for Literary Achievement by the Navy League of the United States; BEHOLD HAWAII (1983, writer & assoc. producer); TO THE LIMIT (1989, line producer); THE DISCOVERERS (1993, co-producer); STORMCHASERS (1995, line producer); ADVENTURES IN WILD CALIFORNIA (2000, producer); JOURNEY INTO AMAZING CAVES (2001, producer); and CORAL REEF ADVENTURE and TOP SPEED (both 2003, both producer). He has served on the Informal Science Review Panel of the National Science Foundation (NSF), whose purview is to determine which media projects receive NSF grants. A Cinema graduate of the University of Southern California, he was recently named to the Chapman University School of Film & Television Development Team. Lorimore resides in Laguna Beach, CA with his wife Alison and their three young sons.
