Executive produced AS GOOD AS IT GETS (1997), winner of seven Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture. Prior to that he produced ROMY AND MICHELE'S HIGH SCHOOL REUNION (1997) starring Mira Sorvino, Lisa Kudrow and Janeane Garofalo and directed by David Mirkin, and the Oscar-winning JERRY MAGUIRE (1996), starring Tom Cruise and directed by Cameron Crowe.
Mark began his career as an executive trainee at United Artists after graduating from Wesleyan University (1971) and from New York University with a master's degree in cinema. After working as a producer's assistant on a number of films (LENNY, SMILE) he held several key publicity and marketing posts in New York and Los Angeles at Paramount Pictures, culminating in his being appointed Vice President of West Coast Marketing for that studio. Moving into production, he then worked as Vice President of Production at Paramount before joining Twentieth Century Fox as Executive Vice President of Production. At those studios, he was closely involved with the development and production of such films as TERMS OF ENDEARMENT, TRADING PLACES, STAYING ALIVE, FALLING IN LOVE, THE FLY and BROADCAST NEWS. As a producer or executive producer, Mark's credits Bob Rafelson's BLACK WIDOW (1987), Mike Nichols' WORKING GIRL (1988), Nicolas Roeg's "Sweet Bird of Youth" for NBC (1989), Susan Seidelman's COOKIE (1989) and Herbert Ross' TRUE COLORS (1991), as well as SISTER ACT 2: BACK IN THE HABIT (1993), THE ADVENTURS OF HUCK FINN (also 1993) and TOM AND HUCK (1995). For television, Mark executive produced "Oliver Twist" (1997), starring Richard Dreyfuss and Elijah Wood, and directed by Tony Bill. Other notable producing credits include CUTTHROAT ISLAND (1995), DEEP RISING, THE OBJECT OF MY AFFECTION and SIMON BIRCH (all 1998), ANYWHERE BUT HERE and BICENTENNIAL MAN (both 1999), CENTER STAGE and FINDING FORRESTER (2000), GLITTER and RIDING IN CARS WITH BOYS (both 2001), I, ROBOT (2004), LAST HOLIDAY and DREAMGIRLS (both 2006), THE LOOKOUT (2007), CENTER STAGE 2 and SAMMY (both scheduled for 2008), and JULIE & JULIA (scheduled for release in 2009). In theatre, Mark made his debut as producer in 1991 with Brooklyn Laundry, starring Glenn Close, Laura Dern and Woody Harrelson, directed by James L. Brooks at the Coronet Theatre in Los Angeles. He also produced the musical stage version of Big which played Broadway's Shubert Theatre in 1995.
