Niki Marvin is an Academy Award® nominated producer. Her most recent feature film, THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, was nominated for 7 Oscars®, including best picture. She was also nominated motion picture producer of the year by the Producers Guild of America.
Marvin grew up in the theatre world, the daughter of theatrical producers in England and the United States. At the tender age of eight, she started working as an actress, graduating to writing and directing plays. She went on to work for the BBC where she wrote, directed and produced over 200 television programs. Everything from drama to documentaries. Relocating to Los Angeles, Marvin began producing feature films and television for the American market. Her motion picture credits include: A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 3: DREAM WARRIORS (1987), MIDNIGHT CABARET (1990) for Warner Bros, the independent film FLIGHT OF THE SPRUCE GOOSE (1987) and THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION. She also produced the USA Network movies "Buried Alive" (1990), "Strays" (1991) and "Buried Alive II," (1997) all of which won high ratings for the network. In recent years, she has returned to writing and directing. She has written "A Dry Spell" for Tom Cruise and Paramount Pictures, "Walk Like A Man" as an independent feature and just finished a sexual-political drama "Love Triangle" for USA Network. She is also developing a number of feature film and television projects, including ones with actor Tim Matheson and Frank Darabont, the writer-director of THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION. In addition, Marvin has also spent time as an executive, heading up Production and Acquisitions (West Coast) for Media Home Entertainment, where she developed and co-financed projects with all the major independent film distributors. She also consults on screenplays.
