Arthur Max

Born in New York City; educated at NYU (1969: B.S.), the Polytechnic of Central London (England, 1980: B.A. Architecture) and the Royal College of Art (1982: M.A.). Production designer who entered British film in the art department in the mid-1980s, first as an assistant to Stuart Craig on GREYSTOKE: THE LEGEND OF TARZAN, LORD OF THE APES and CAL (both 1984), then assisting Ashetton Gorton on REVOLUTION (1985). After working as a production designer in commercials from 1985 to 1995 for many directors -- including Ridley Scott and David Fincher, with whom he would go on to collaborate on feature films -- Max's production design credits include SE7EN (1995), G.I. JANE (1997), GLADIATOR (2000), BLACK HAWK DOWN (2001), PANIC ROOM (2002), KINGDOM OF HEAVEN (2005), AMERICAN GANGSTER (2007), and BODY OF LIES (2008).
