Born Christopher Noonan in Sydney, NSW, Australia. Trained at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School. He won a prize for his first short film at the Sydney Film Festival at the age of 16.

Notable writing-directing credits include BULLS (1973), "Cowra Breakout" (1984, TV mini-series), "Vietnam" (1986, TV mini-series), "Police State" (1989, TV) and BABE (1995). He was executive producer of FEELING SEXY (1999). Noonan directed MISS POTTER (2006), and he's slated to helm THE THIRD WATCH (announced for 2009).

Noonan's partner is former SBS Independent General Manager and Producer Glenys Rowe.
