Paul Seydor

Biography from Chapman University

Editor Paul Seydor has a unique background, combining a Ph.D. in American Civilization with a triple emphasis in American literature, American intellectual history and film from the University of Iowa, with scholarly research and writing, and a major career in filmmaking honored by an Academy Award® nomination and an American Cinema Editors award. In the industry, his work with a long list of impressive directors, including Ron Shelton, is testament to his reputation. Seydor has taught at both the University of Southern California and the University of Iowa. His books on director Sam Peckinpah gave birth to a reevaluation of Peckinpah as a master director in American cinema.

Seydor entered American film as an assistant editor for UNDER FIRE (1983). Other notable editing credits include TURNER & HOOCH (1989), WHITE MEN CAN'T JUMP (1992), THE PROGRAM (1993), MAJOR LEAGUE II and COBB (both 1994), TIN CUP (1996), PLAY IT TO THE BONE and WOMAN WANTED (both 1999), "The Day Reagan Was Shot" (2001, TV), THE THIRD WHEEL and DARK BLUE (both 2002), HOLLYWOOD HOMICIDE (2003), BARBERSHOP 2: BACK IN BUSINESS (2004), GUESS WHO (2005), and BECAUSE I SAID SO and THIS CHRISTMAS (both 2007).

Seydor sits on the faculty of the Lawrence & Kristina Dodge College of Film and Media Arts at Chapman University in Orange, CA.
