Born in New York City; educated at the Berklee College of Music, Boston, MA. A leading contemporary composer for over 100 films and TV programs who began his career scoring low-budget films (THE DOBERMAN GANG, 1972; LAS VEGAS LADY, 1975; THE AMAZING DOBERMANS, 1976; and THE FIFTH FLOOR, 1978) and worked on the TV series "CHiPS", Alan Silvestri graduated to prestigious Hollywood productions including the Robert Zemeckis films ROMANCING THE STONE (1984), BACK TO THE FUTURE (1985), WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT (1988), and DEATH BECOMES HER (1992). He earned an Oscar® nomination for his stirring underscore for Zemeckis' blockbuster FORREST GUMP (1994) and has continued his association with the director through 2009, working on CONTACT (1997), WHAT LIES BENEATH and CAST AWAY (both 2000), THE POLAR EXPRESS (2004), BEOWULF (2007), and the upcoming 2009 releases THE CORRECTIONS and A CHRISTMAS CAROL.

Silvestri has also scored THE MEXICAN, THE MUMMY RETURNS and SERENDIPITY (all 2001), SHOWTIME, LILO & STITCH, STUART LITTLE 2 and MAID IN MANHATTAN (all 2002), IDENTITY and LARA CROFT TOMB RAIDER: THE CRADLE OF LIFE (both 2003), VAN HELSING (2004), THE WILD and NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM (both 2006), and G.I. JOE and NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 2: ESCAPE FROM THE SMITHSONIAN (both scheduled for release in 2009).

Silvestri lives in northern California with his wife Sandra (b. 1978). They have 3 children.
