Born in England. He has directed many productions in the theatre and was Artistic Director of the Bristol Old Vic theatre. He co-created the BBC-TV series "Casualty" (1986). He directed the 1998 adaptation of Henry James' THE AMERICAN, which starred Matthew Modine and Diana Rigg. Since 1995, Unwin has worked primarily in writing, producing and director for British television.
