Born in England. He has directed many productions in the theatre and was Artistic Director of the Bristol Old Vic theatre. He co-created the BBC-TV series "Casualty" (1986). He directed the 1998 adaptation of Henry James' THE AMERICAN, which starred Matthew Modine and Diana Rigg.
