Born Margaret Jobeth Williams in Houston, TX; educated at Brown University (Providence, RI: English). Stage actress who graduated from daytime soaps to a full frontal on the big screen with KRAMER VS. KRAMER (1979). Dark-haired and attractive (but not flashy), Williams has an honest charm which, combined with her evident talent, has proved an effective combination; memorable in such films as POLTERGEIST (1982), THE BIG CHILL (1983) and DESERT BLOOM (1986) and in the TV movie, MY NAME IS BILL W. (1989).

Other notable screen credits include STIR CRAZY and THE DOGS OF WAR (both 1980), ENDANGERED SPECIES (1982), TEACHERS and AMERICAN DREAMER (both 1984), POLTERGEIST II: THE OTHER SIDE (1986), MEMORIES OF ME (1988), WELCOME HOME (1989), SWITCH and DUTCH (both 1991), ME, MYSELF AND I (1992), WYATT EARP (1994), JUNGLE 2 JUNGLE, JUST WRITE, LITTLE CITY and WHEN DANGER FOLLOWS YOU HOME (all 1997), REPOSSESSED and THE ROSE TECHNIQUE (both 2002), FEVER PITCH and CRAZYLOVE (both 2005), IN THE LAND OF WOMEN (2007), and TIMER (2008), as well as many made-for-television movies and TV series appearances.

She produced and directed ON HOPE (1994) for Showtime. Other directing credits include "Frankie & Hazel" (2000, TV), an episode of "Night Visions" (2001, TV) and WINONA'S WEB (also 2001).

Williams has been married to TV director John Pasquin since 1982. They have two sons, Nick and Will.
