Born in Beirut, Lebanon. A self-taught musician, Yared abandoned law studies in 1971, moved to Paris and attended musical composition courses given by Henri Dutilleux at the Ecole Normale De Musique. In 1973, he began a career as composer-orchestrator for singers such as Françoise Hardy, Charles Aznavour, Johnny Hallyday, Mireille Mathieu and Sylvie Vartan. He has composed music for film and TV since 1974, mostly in Europe until the mid-80s, including LA DIAGONALE DU FOU / DANGEROUS MOVES (1984) and 37°2 LE MATIN / BETTY BLUE (1986). Yared's subsequent feature film scoring credits include LAST SONG and BEYOND THERAPY (both 1987), CAMILLE CLAUDEL and CLEAN AND SOBER (both 1988), VINCENT & THEO (1990), L'AMANT / THE LOVER (1991), THE ENGLISH PATIENT (1996), CITY OF ANGELS (1998), MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE and THE TALENTED MR. RIPLEY (both 1999), THE NEXT BEST THING and AUTUMN IN NEW YORK (both 2000), LISA (2001), L'IDOLE and POSSESSION and THE ONE AND ONLY (all 2002), BON VOYAGE, LES MARINS PERDUS / THE LOST SEAMEN, SYLVIA and COLD MOUNTAIN (all 2003), SHALL WE DANCE? (2004), L'AVION and UNDEREXPOSURE (both 2005), DAS LEBEN DER ANDEREN / THE LIVES OF THERS, AZUR ET ASMAR and BREAKING AND ENTERING (all 2006), 1408 and MANOLETE (both 2007), and THE NO. 1 LADIES DETECTIVE AGENCY and ADAM RESURRECTED (both 2008), as well as several made-for-TV movies.
