Born in Aviano, Italy. An actress with a knack for light comedy, Amy Adams moved with her family to Minnesota at an early age. After studying dance and working in regional dinner theater, she landed her first film role in the satiric 1999 comedy DROP DEAD GORGEOUS, which was, appropriately enough, set in Minnesota. After appearing in the independent comedy PSYCHO BEACH PARTY (2000), Adams made guest appearances on a number of television series, including "That 70s Show," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," and "The West Wing"; she was also cast as a regular in "Manchester Prep," a TV spin-off of the hit film CRUEL INTENTIONS. "Manchester Prep," however, was never aired when its network decided that the show's sexual content was too strong for television, although several episodes were eventually re-edited into a direct-to-video feature entitled CRUEL INTENTIONS 2 (2000).

2002 proved to be a very busy year for Adams, who appeared in no fewer than four features, including THE SLAUGHTER RULE, PUMPKIN, SERVING SARA, and the eagerly anticipated CATCH ME IF YOU CAN, featuring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks. 2004 credits include THE LAST RUN and the TV series "Dr. Vegas." Her 2005 feature credits include STANDING STILL, JUNEBUG and THE WEDDING DATE, and she appeared regularly as Katy on the TV series "The Office." Subsequent films include MOONLIGHT SERENADE, TALLADEGA NIGHTS: THE BALLAD OF RICKY BOBBY and FAST TRACK (all 2006), ENCHANTED (where all that musical theatre training paid off!) and CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR (both 2007), SUNSHINE CLEANING, MISS PETTIGREW LIVES FOR A DAY and DOUBT (all 2008), and JULIE & JULIA and NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 2: ESCAPE FROM THE SMITHSONIAN (both scheduled for release in 2009).

Adams was invited to join A.M.P.A.S. in 2006.
