Born in Aukland, New Zealand. Entered American film as a technical director at Pacific Data Images for TOYS (1992) and worked as visual effects supervisor for BATMAN FOREVER (1995), A TIME TO KILL (1996) and BATMAN & ROBIN (1997). He was chosen to co-direct SHREK (2001) with Vicky Jenson at DreamWorks SKG. He wrote the story for SHREK 2 (2004), was a co-writer on the screenplay and co-directed with Kelly Asbury and Conrad Vernon. In 2005, Adamson adapted C. S. Lewis' novel and directed the Disney production of THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION THE WITCH & THE WARDROBE (2005). He was a writer and executive producer of SHREK THE THIRD (2007); he also executive produced BALLAST that same year. 2008 saw the release of the second NARNIA installment, THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: PRINCE CASPIAN, for which Adamson wrote the screenplay, produced and directed. He is slated to produce TORTOISE AND HIPPO (scheduled for release in 2008) and THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE TRUE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER (scheduled for release in 2010).

Adamson was made a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the 2006 Queen's Birthday Honours List.
