Born Phillip Bradley Bird in Kalispell, Montana; graduated from Corvallis (Oregon) High School. Started training as an animator at 14, joined Disney in 1981 for THE FOX AND THE HOUND (uncredited). He also worked as an animator on THE PLAGUE DOGS (1982). TV consulting and producing credits include "The Simpsons," "The Critic" and "King of the Hill." Bird wrote the screen story and directed THE IRON GIANT (1999). His most popular feature work, though, is THE INCREDIBLES (2004), which he wrote and directed -- as well as voicing the character of Edna "E" Mode. He followed this in 2007 with another Best Animated Feature winner, RATATOUILLE (2007).

Since 1988, Bird has been married to film editor Elizabeth Canney. They have 3 children.
