Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada; graduated from high school in 1972. Production executive who entered Canadian film in 1981 (SOUTH PACIFIC 1942). Other notable credits include SELF DEFENSE (1983), DEF-CON 4 (1985), DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY (1991), JACOB TWO TWO MEETS THE HOODED FANG (1999), "Talking to Americans" (2001, TV), BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE (2002), "Shattered City: The Halifax Explosion" (2003, TV), and SHAKE HANDS WITH THE DEVIL (2007). Donovan's TV series producing credits include "The Awful Truth" (2000-01), "Mary Walsh: Open Book" (2002), "Poko" (2003) and "North/South" (2006).
He and his brother Paul Donovan were co-founders of Salter Street Films (1983 - 2003). In 2005, he co-founded The Halifax Film Company with producer Charles Bishop.
