Born in Madrid, Spain; began his studies at the University of Journalism in Madrid; earned his B.A. in Film Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and his M.A. at San Francisco State University. Documentary filmmaker whose credits include CUBA VA: THE CHALLENGE OF THE NEXT GENERATION (1993, director), DAUGHTER FROM DANANG (2002), and "Summer of Love" (2007, TV: "The American Experience").

In addition to his own films, Franco's cinematography credits include FREEDOM ON MY MIND (1994), EVERYDAY HEROES (2001), DISCOVERING DOMINGA: A SURVIVOR'S STORY (2003), THIRST and A HARD STRIAGHT (add'l cinematography) (both 2004), TEXAS GOLD, WAITING TO INHALE, WAGING A LIVING and SOUL OF JUSTICE: THELTON HENDERSON'S AMERICAN JOURNEY (all 2005), ¿QUÉ TIENES DEBAJO DEL SOMBRERO? / WHAT DO YOU HAVE UNDER THE SOMBRERO? and SALUD (both 2006), and CONVENTION (2008).
