Born in Donostia-San Sebastián, Spain. His first score for a feature was for 1980's PAISAJE. Since then, he's scored over forty films. His first film for Pedro Almodóvar was 1995's LA FLOR DE MI SECRETO ('The Flower of My Secret'). Since then, he's scored Almodóvar's CARNE TRÉMULA ('Live Flesh', 1997), TODO SOBRE MI MADRE ('All About My Mother', 1999), HABLE CON ELLA ('Talk to Her', 2002), LA MALA EDUCACIÓN ('Bad Education', 2004) and VOLVER (2006). Among the other films he's scored are THE CONSTANT GARDENER (2005), THE KITE RUNNER (2007), GUERRILLA, THE ARGENTINE and THE READER (all 2008), and LOS ABRAZOS ROTOS ('Broken Embraces') (Almodóvar's most recent film, scheduled for release in 2009)..  Nominated for Achievement in Music (Original Score) 2005: THE CONSTANT GARDENER  Nominated for Achievement in Music (Original Score) 2007: THE KITE RUNNER 2 nominations
