Born in Philadelphia, PA; illegitimate son of legendary architect Louis I. Kahn and landscape architect Harriet Pattison. Wrote the 1996 documentary MY FATHER'S GARDEN, about the use and misuse of technology on the American farm.

Louis Kahn also had a daughter, Alexandra, with architect Anne Tyng. Although he privately acknowledged Nathaniel and Alexandra as his children, Kahn left them out of his will, leaving his entire estate to his wife and their daughter. In an attempt to come to terms with his complicated feelings for his father, Nathaniel embarked on an exploration of Kahn's work. The resulting film was MY ARCHITECT: A SON'S JOURNEY (2003).

Kahn's other work includes the script for CANARY OF THE OCEAN (1997), associate producer for LIFEBREATH (also 1997), and directing "The Buried Secret of M. Night Shyamalan" (2004, TV), and TIME PIECE (Segment: "Andrew's Story") and TWO HANDS: THE LEON FLEISHER STORY (both 2006).

Kahn was invited to join A.M.P.A.S. in 2007.
