Gary McKendry


Everything in This Country Must (2004)
Born and raised in a village outside Belfast, Northern Ireland. He studied design at St. Martin's School of Art, London. After a stint as an armored-car driver, he broke into the advertising side of filmmaking with an art-directing gig at Creative Image Associates, Belfast, and later moved to Sydney, Australia, where he served as an art director at an agency there. McKendry then moved to New York, where he worked on the American Express account at Ogilvy & Mather. He began directing commercials for another agency. EVERYTHING IN THIS COUNTRY MUST, which is based on a book by screenplay co-writer Colum McCann, is his first recorded film credit.
