Independent filmmaker whose experience over the last twenty-five years has covered most of the major aspects of filmmaking. McLeod's producing and directing career began with the formation of a company that produced music videos for feature film directors who wanted to try their hand at, what was at that time a new concept -- music videos. Some of the people with whom she worked included Michael Lindsey-Hogg, Alex Cox, Jonathan Demme, John Sayles, UB40, Bruce Springsteen, Chrissy Hynde, and Roy Orbison.
This resulted in her own directing foray into music videos when she was asked to direct a series for VH1 called "The Sixties." This was followed by a short film which she directed for Saturday Nite Live called DOLL DAY AFTERNOON, which has been shown in Museums across the country including the Boston Museum of Fine Art, the Walker Art Center and the Dallas Museum of Fine Art. A Talking Heads video which she conceptualized and directed was invited to the New York Film festival and is now part of the permanent collection in MOMA in New York. She produced, directed and wrote segments of an AIDS awareness project called "Red, Hot and Blue" which was aired on CBS. One segment included a music video with "Erasure" which was used as an early educational tool for AIDS awareness. Other segments were used interstitially and starred Bill Irwin. The project was an international venture and put together directors, musicians and artists for all over the world, including Wim Wenders, Jim Jarmush, Tom Waits, Annie Lennox, U2, Iggy Pop, Debby Harry, the Neville Brothers, and Sinead O'Conner. This led to an MTV special on women called "Nothin but a She Thang," in which she created segments that promoted women's awareness. Sandy began her film career as a script supervisor working with such diverse directors and actors as Richard Attenborough, Karel Reisz, Paul Schraeder, Taylor Hackford, Anthony Hopkins, Merle Streep, Melanie Griffith, Spaulding Gray, Jason Robards, Deborah Winger, John Lithgow, Tim Curry and Nick Nolte. Sandy was the second unit director and script supervisor on the John Sayles film LIMBO, and as a result she is now a member of the Director's Guild. She has also previously served on a grants panel for Independent Television Service which provides funding to independent producers for alternative programming and a judging panel for UNESCO that awarded prizes for the best documentary of the year.
