Joe Merideth began his affair with animation at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where he studied filmmaking and figure drawing. While in the Film Department, Joe enrolled in a number of animation courses and in 1992 produced a 5 minute short with sound, entitled "WHAT'S THIS?" Merideth graduated in May of 1994 and began freelancing for Calabash Animation, Inc., a commercial animation studio located in Chicago. Starting as an opaquer, he became involved in other facets of production including clean-up artist and assistant animator. In May of 1996, he was hired as a full-time animator with Calabash and has animated some of cereal's most prominent icons. In 1997 Calabash began a shorts program. Any interested full-time employee of Calabash was invited to submit an idea for a short. Merideth's film STUBBLE TROUBLE represents the first of these efforts to come forth.
Merideth teaches animation at Columbia College in Chicago. He also has been a part of art programs teaching animation to elementary and high school age youths through the Skokie Park district and the Marwen Foundation.
