Born in Flint, MI. Famous for his provocative populist documentaries that are unapologetic attacks on callous business corporations, oppurtunistic rightwing politicians and other social wrongs. Usually wears a baseball cap and glasses. Was arrested during filming of the video "Sleep Now In The Fire" by Rage Against The Machine. The filming also shut down the New York Stock Exchange early that day. He raised money for the production of his first film, ROGER & ME (1989), by running neighborhood bingo games in his house.

Other notable credits include "Pets or Meat: The Return to Flint" (1992, TV), "TV Nation" (1994, TV series), CANADIAN BACON (1995), THE BIG ONE (1997), AND JUSTICE FOR ALL (1998) and the 1999 TV series "The Awful Truth."

Admitted on the Fox News Channel show "Hannity and Colmes" that he lives in a $1.9 million dollar home in New York City.

Moore created a stir when he accepted his Academy Award® for BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE at the March 23, 2003 Ceremonies. Bringing all the documentary nominees on stage along with co-producer Michael Donovan, he proceeded to harangue the Bush administration for its pursuit of the then on-going war against Iraq. "Shame on you, Mr. Bush!" Moore declaimed. The assembled Hollywood elite greeted his remarks with a chorus of boos with scattered shouts of support. Moore later claimed that the boos came mostly from the stagehands backstage and were amplified by microphones. He claimed further that telecast producer Gilbert Cates deliberately omitted showing shots of those in the audience who supported Moore's remarks. Cates strenuously denied doing so. Moore said that no one at the Governor's Ball after the ceremonies came up to him with negative remarks. Instead, Moore claimed, several members of the Academy congratulated him on using the forum to voice his opposition to the Bush administration and the war. According to Moore, Academy President Frank Pierson said: "Way to go! That's what America's all about."

Moore's next two projects, FAHRENHEIT 9/11 (2004), about the US after the September 11, 2001 attacks, and SICKO (2007), about HMO's and the health care crisis, both received critical and audience acclaim.
