Born Lawrence Joseph Mullen Jr. in a northside suburb of Dublin, Ireland, called Artane. He was two years behind Bono in high school but both noticed each other. It was Larry who posted an ad on a bulletin board at school bout starting a band. Mullen studied with Ireland's best known drummer Joe Bonnie who died in 1974. Larry has a girlfriend which he has had since high school named Anne Acheson, with whom he has lived for over 10 years. They have one child, Aaron Elvis.
