Born in Mexico City, D.F., Mexico. Cinematographer (favored by Alejandro González Iñarritu, Spike Lee, Pedro Almodóvar and Ang Lee) who entered Mexican film in 1988 with HOY ESTOY TRISTE. He shot many Mexican films in the ensuing years, the most notable of which was AMORES PERROS (LOVE'S A BITCH, 2000). Later credits include TEN TINY LOVE STORIES and ORIGINAL SIN (both 2001), FRIDA, 8 MILE and 25TH HOUR (all 2002), COMANDANTE, 21 GRAMS and PERSONA NON GRATA (all 2003), ALEXANDER (2004), BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN (2005), BABEL (2006), SE, JIE (LUST, CAUTION; 2007), and STATE OF PLAY, LOS ABRAZOS ROTOS (BROKEN HUGS) and an as yet untitled Alejandro González Iñarritu project (all scheduled for release in 2009).  Nominated for Achievement in Cinematography 2005: BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN 1 nomination
