Paul Weitz and brother Chris co-directed the blockbuster hits AMERICAN PIE and DOWN TO EARTH starring Chris Rock. Previously, the filmmaking brothers collaborated on several screenplays, including ANTZ (1998) and MADELEINE, based on the popular children's book, and they contributed to the writing of SHANGHAI NOON and THE NUTTY PROFESSOR 2. Paul made his acting debut in Miguel Arteta's CHUCK & BUCK (2000).

Born in New York City, the brothers are third-generation filmmakers. Their grandfather was fabled agent Paul Kohner, who represented legendary filmmakers such as John Huston, Billy Wilder, and Ingmar Bergman, and their parents are fashion designer/writer John Weitz and Oscar®-nominated actress Susan Kohner.

Paul Weitz graduated from Wesleyan University with a degree in film. In his last year there, his play Mango Tea was produced off-Broadway with Marisa Tomei and Rob Morrow by New York's Ensemble Studio Theatre. EST also produced his next works, Captive and All for One.

Weitz's later writing, producing and directing credits (with brother Chris as producer or exective producer) include DYLAN'S RUN (2002, exec. prod.), AMERICAN WEDDING (2003, exec. prod.), SEE THIS MOVIE (exec. prod.) and IN GOOD COMPANY (producer, writer & director) (both 2004), AMERICAN DREAMZ (director & producer) and BICKFORD SCHMECKLER'S COOL IDEA (producer) (both 2006), THE GOLDEN COMPASS (2007, exec. prod.), NICK AND NORAH'S INFINITE PLAYLIST (producer), CIRQUE DU FREAK (director) and THE GAME (exec. prod.) (both 2008), and MY MOTHER'S BOYFRIEND (scheduled for release in 2009, producer).

Weitz married Patricia Brown in 2001; they have a daughter born in 2004.
